There has been increasing comments made about an internet ad by Sony in which Nigeria was mentioned. The advert was on Youtube and facebook also and it is related to the newest ps3 gadget being released by Sony for a low price. There was a conversation between a Sony customer named Bernie and a Sony Rep Kelvin Butler. The conversation goes thus: BERNIE BUNCALAN
(Rumor monger)
sitting on a chair in front of a sony viao laptop,
Dear playstation, i got a tip, you are making PS3 299, confirm or deny? Kelvin Butler,
(Director of Rumor confirmation)
comes out apparently from Sony headquarters Bernie, you cant believe everything you read on the internet, otherwise i will be a Nigeria millionaire by now. 299 for the sweetest gaming bluray playing movie downloading system in the world would be fantastic, sighs. no comment. BERNIE BUNCALAN
(Rumor monger, )
But all that stuff is 299? Kelvin Butler,
(Director of Rumor confirmation)
huh? BERNIE BUNCALAN
(Rumor monger, )
Right behind you? Kelvin Butler,
(Director of Rumor confirmation)
m sorry u said something?
At the end of the add,
it shows the new ps3 slogan
IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING
PS3 NOW $299.Well, it is even on the pages of the sun newspapers today about FG condemning Sony's malicious internet advert on Youtube and Facebook. The statement by the FG was signed by the Minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili. While i would not support all that the Sony rep said about Nigeria directly or implied, the guy is only being real. It is not as if Sony was saying something out of the ordinary, it was a kind of comedy, even if they meant it, they are not lying are they. Most Nigerian internet millionaires of course made it by being fraudulent on the internet and of course this was because a lot of 419 victims believed everything these Nigerians were feeding them via the internet. I think Sony can stand in on its defense saying they were only offering social support to people who use the internet to be careful. We can't deny that there are not a lot of internet fraudsters coming from Nigeria, somehow the advert is comedy like and i don't think Sony in anyway wanted to belittle Nigeria as a country. let's take it as a joke that has an element of truth - "Don't believe everything you hear on the internet."
