I thought I should blog about the next Presidential election coming up in 2010 by which the current President, Umaru Musa Yaradua, would have completed his tenure.
Who would really be the next President of Nigeria? The ruling People's Democratic Party - PDP has been ruling this country for more than 10 years after the military handed power over to a civilian President in the person of Olusegun Mathew Obasanjo. President Obasanjo had won the first presidential election after the controversies of the annulled June 12 election and was sworn in on May 1999. He again won a second election for another term to run the country for the next 4 years. After the expiration of Obasanjo's tenure, Yar'Adua won the third presidential election after June 12 and Nigerians are not yet satisfied with the what we call dividends of democracy. The height of PDP led government had in no way solved Nigeria's major problem for these past 10 years which is adequate electrical power supply. This problem has become epileptic with the major and certainly sole power company NEPA (Now PHCN) being restructured without any public gain. Power problem has become the main issue to Nigerians as the PDP govt's inability to rectify this has thrown them out of favour with the former. There are a couple of other problems which Nigerians find with President Obasanjo and Yaradua's administration so far and they include; - Bad federal roads particularly in the East
- Low standard of living
- High level of corruption
- Low investment in Education
- High cases of election rigging
- Increasing annual inflation
- Unwillingness to bail out the stock market which has led to huge losses
- Increasing unemployment
- No plan to diversify Nigeria's economy
- Downplaying the effects of global recession from the onsetNot everyone or rather a majority of people are unsatisfied with the outcome of Nigeria's democracy these past 10 years and are eager to know what the next President of Nigeria would bring.
Would he an Obama or Bush to us?
Would Nigerians want Yaradua and PDP to continue?
Who could possibly be better than Yaradua? Is it Babangida, Buhari, Atiku, Ben Obi, Iwuanyannwu, Orji Uzor Kalu, Jim Nwobodo or someone we don't know yet? (Stranger)

In Reply to Who would be Nigeria's next President? I my own opinion, it will be better if a neutral man from another party rules this country. bcos PDP has failed woefully and setting bad legacy for the future generation.let all opposition parties come together and form a mega party that can kick-out PDP from power else we will be running into an one-party state of failed system.God bless Nigeria.

In Reply to Who would be Nigeria's next President? Well, its obvious that the so called PDP has nothing to offer Nigerians anymore. But i will prefer a result oriented, visionary and God fearing candidate from other party. The like of Bola Tinubu or Fashola Raji.Because both have been tested and trusted. As ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN VOICE.

In Reply to Who would be Nigeria's next President? This is my little contribution to this discussion. Any Nigerian will be intrested in the next president because we can no longer continue in this backward system we are in. The present PDP is nothing but a disgrace to the image of Nigeria. We need to let all these old politicians go and sit in their homes. Let all the other party form a powerful party and move PDP out of the place. If they will listern that will be ok'
The present Governor of Lagos state is the man for Nigeria, this is on the condition Nigeria want progress. The man has proved to us he can change that country. Give him a chance.

In Reply to Who would be Nigeria's next President? from prison to presidency, Obasanjo finally imprisoned Nigeria with bad leadership! The time for change is now and its high time we started looking up to people who have taken their professional carriers beyond the poorly-developed Nigerian borders. Considering the conventional rotational turns of the presidency, the next president shud either be Rochas Okorocha, Oby Ezekwesiri, Soludo or/and Ribadu if power still remains in the North. we need leaders not gworo eaters or redcap powerless chiefs. a stitch in time saves nine!
