Anambra is a state that is nicknamed home for all. It has got a very wide list of prominent Nigerians ranging from the first president of Nigeria to the former governor of the CBN. Anambra has carved its niche in Nigeria's politics and is still on fire, metaphorically speaking.
Anambra was the first state to hold governorship elections out of the normal time-table for elections as a result of recurring removals of governors now to the current Peter Obi who is regarded as truly, the people's favourite and from the popular grass-root political party - APGA.
Now, what does APGA do when an equally popular and credible son in the person of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, although from a less popular ruling PDP comes to seek Obi's seat?
Soludo has been known as governor of the CBN and whose performance strengthened the banking industry through various consolidations and reforms. He has been known to be of impeccable character and a first class student of Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Peter Obi, on the other hand is the current Anambra state governor who came into power through a just judicial system that sacked PDP's Andy Uba. Peter Obi has developed Anambra state by means of various capital projects and much faster than his predecessors put together and is said to be a God fearing man. Peter Obi also is educated and wants to go for a second term of office.
Ordinarily, we would say that Obi has no problems since the aftermath of PDP's primaries has created Soludo lots of enemies with a lot of law suits pending, there is the Ngige factor - A man who also was once governor of Anambra state and during his tenure there was relative security in the state, a man who defied his political godfather and is now running for governor again under a new political party - the Action Congress (A.C). While the A.C. is not seen as a real threat to the other political parties, in combination with PDP, reputed for its high political riggings, Peter Obi's vote may be weakened and may now cause victory to be given to Soludo. Ordinarily, Anambrarians wans Peter Obi to continue, Ngige and the A.C. may cause him to lose votes if care is not taken.
Personally, I would not like the PDP to win the election since the PDP is already strong in other states and we don't want a one party state.
