If you do an analysis of the current events happening in Nigeria right now, you would easily see that the Federal government seems to have more enemies in the former eastern region of Nigeria comprising of the South East and South South. Apart from political differences in terms of APGA vs PDP and PPA vs PDP, the major militant groups that we currently have now are also resident in there comprising of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) for the South South as well as the Movement for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) for the South East although MASSOB declares itself as a non violent organization that only cries for the marginalization of the Igbo people unlike MEND which is also against the Federal govt accepts responsibility for terrorist acts carried out on oil companies operating in Nigeria ranging from kidnaps, pipeline bombings to redress the injustice carried out against the Niger delta people. About 40 year ago, the fathers of these current agitators declared the sovereign state of Biafra with Ojukwu as their leader in order to be recognized as a different country outside Nigeria . They can be said to be courageous but after an 18 month war which left many of their fathers dead with the remnant defecting back to Nigeria, these off springs have seemed to replace their parents and appear willing to do anything within their power to gain autonomy. Their actions show that they would prefer to operate in a country of their own outside Nigeria which is mismanaged. One could say that Federal presence is weak in these area since it carries the most animosity against the entity called Nigeria, defies the authority of the Federal govt and operates outside the nation's law. The Federal govt need to do something urgently to nip this situation in the bud before it becomes a bigger problem cos it's in situations like these can another Biafra be made possible unless the Federal govt is willing to cede this part of Nigeria to themselves as Obasanjo did Bakassi to Cameroun.
