Why Jos? Why again must we be ushered into this new year with another bloody crisis. This makes me think that what someone said on a Nigerian newspapers could be true - that Nigeria is indeed a Terrorist state from within. The crisis is a continuation of the Christians and Muslims in Jos who both have a high level of distrust between themselves and have a crude way of settling it - Knives, daggers, clubs, sticks, guns and arrows. As I'm writing this the violence has escalated with foreign media reporting more than 150 casualties. The Christians on their part say that it was all started by an attack on church people after service while Muslims say it was caused when an attack was launched against a Muslim man who was rebuilding his home which had been destroyed due to past attacks. How long will this senseless killings go on? What I can deduce from this is that it actually has to do with civilization. While people in southern Nigeria have a way of fighting themselves in a more civil manner and probably on pages of the newspapers, people in northern Nigeria seem to have a more crude way of showing it. Of course distrusts do exist between Christians and Muslims due to the religious diversity but how they settle this appears not necessarily to be based on religion but on civility.

Re: Jos on Fire Posted by Alli Yusuf on January 29, 2010 at 09:12:33: We should thank God that there is relative peace for now. The Fed govt shouls always show willingness to deploy the army as soon as events like these happen in the north. This thing has a tendency or repeating itself every 2 - 3 years
