Human life is precious and I wouldn't want to talk about the health of Yaradua carelessly. What bothers me is that I am in Nigeria - the same country where Yaradua supposedly is, but I can't tell for certainty his current health status.
I had wished Yaradua had a page on twitter and his twitter url could probably be twitter.com/yaradua. Then, he would probably be able to post some tweets to tell us how he feels. But it seems that his problem could be more serious than earlier imagined - He could be living dead - What I would call machine alive.
It would be nice if Nigerian presidents developed the habit of at least being closer to their people by having a page on twitter. Obama really tried in carrying people along in the online community by having a staff dedicated to his twitter and facebook page - How I wish Yaradua had one of those. Then we would know officially what he is doing.
Well enough of Twitter and Facebook, what about Yaradua?
Of all the presidents of Nigeria I have been privileged to witness their reign, Yaradua is the only person I kinda feel sorry for - Cos he showed a genuine will to move us forward with his seven point agenda and now he appears critically ill.
Yaradua was reportedly flown in from Saudi Arabia into Abuja after the former's best hospital and doctors had tried their best in treating him. He is back to Nigeria, but not with funfare or rejoicing, but with darkness - as was reported, the lights at the airport went off.
He is reported to have been placed on a life sustaining machine and since we have not seen at least a live video feed of our beloved Democratic President but for someone to have been silent without public speaking for a long time implies that he is actually incapable of speaking publicly - he may be in a coma.
Yaradua's life may still be sustained on a machine running with electricity and batteries and may have to remain so until his health improves. For now, it appears that Yaradua is simply Machine Alive.
