In spite of the numerous political divisions, despite the caliber of persons campaigning to take the top seat, although he did not spend much money for his campaign, Peter Obi of the APGA still remains the governor of Anambra state election that was conducted by INEC on Saturday 6th 2010.
Why does Anambra continue to elude the PDP, you may ask?
In my previous blog post, Anambra: Who would be governor, I actually preferred Peter Obi to be the winner because of his humble personality, his achievements which can be seen on ANIDS website as well as the fact that he was the only real winner of the earlier election that was held, without any rigging on his part, even though he had to go to court to win his right. It would really be nice to have him continue the good work he has been doing for Anambra as he indeed the people's choice.
Based on my experience on governorship elections that have been held in Nigerian states, there are only few of them which I can say that their current governors really came into power as a result of true democracy - will of the people. These will include Kwara, Lagos, Jos, Anambra, Edo and Ogun state.
APGA has really shown that they are the grassroots and ruling party for the people of Anambra state and have carved themselves on the pages of history by returning their candidate to power for a second term.
I actually prayed for Peter Obi to remain the governor of my state seeing that anyother person coming in to take his place will only move us backwards. Anambra has not just progressed, in the time of Peter Obi, in terms of public utilities like good roads, schools and other necessary facilities, but has also grown in terms on IT by becoming Nigeria's number one in Information and Communication and Technology (ICT), following its adoption of 110 secondary schools in the state as Microsoft Academies See news. The results for the election so far in Anambra although showed that the AC had a good candidate in the person of Chris Ngige, but could not match the machinery of APGA which appeared to have carved a place in the hears and minds of Ndi-Anambra. I am happy for Peter Obi. He is what Anambra needs for now. 4 more stable years of development. If the laws were to change, I would want Peter Obi to continue for another 8 years in office
