I read in the Sun newspapers today that the NLC VP, Comrade Isa Aremu was calling on our honorable minister, Dora Akunyili to resign on the grounds that she should "stop insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians and honorably resign her position as minister".
If I know Dora very well, she's not the kind of woman who would be cowed into resigning on any grounds, no matter how much you persecute her. She's a woman of great faith and endurance and I like her for that.
What crime did Akunyili commit, other than asking the FEC to get Yaradua to handover to Jonathan so that Nigeria may move forward? That is the only sensible thing I've seen a member of the FEC do so far.
What Dora Akuniyil did in sending that memo to all the members of the committee, touching their conscience, to me, is an act that should be considered heroic and should be written on the pages of history. Dora should be remembered for this and is already a worthy Nigerian patriot.
Perhaps, I should show and extract from Dora Akunyili's memo to the FEC;

I think as a Nigerian she has a right to voice her opinion and at a much crucial time now. The issue of Yaradua's absence for more than 60 days without any live video feed from Saudi Arabia or vacation letter has become not just embarrassing to Nigerians locally but also to our image globally and I'm not yet talking about the Christmas bomb plot or the recent Jos crisis.
The cabinet must stop lying to Nigerians about President Yar’Adua’s illness and face up to the reality that he is no longer able to perform his duties

She did a nice job then at NAFDAC and she is equally doing a nice job now. I hope we have more and more Nigerians like Dora offering themselves for public service. This will make the nation a better place.
Well done Dora!!!
