What do you think? After ruling the nation as a military president, our good old Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida - IBB is in the news again and this time, he wants to be president.
The first thing that came to my mind after I heard of news reports concering this issue as well as people voicing their opinion in the media "THIS IS JUST ANOTHER RUMOUR".
I for one has never believed that IBB really has any intentions to become president again. I mean, he's around 70, beyond public service retirement age and has made a lot of money when he was number one. Why would he want to be president again when he has a more comfortable life at Minna? Perhaps, this is all politics and he just wants to repeat what he did at the last PDP primary, when he tactically gave the baton to Umaru Musa Yaradua, since he was like a son.
I think that like Theophilus Danjuma, great Nigerians like him are just seeking a way to build a lasting legacy by which they would be remembered rather than just seeking for power. I think somehow, Babangida doesn't really want to be President again but rather just wants to be in the news again and see how people would react when they hear this. Well, politics has many tricks and this could be one of them. If you are seeking for an elective position or just want to know your level of influence, then you need to do something that will put you in the news and then you get feelers on how people would react towards your public image. Or could I be wrong, does he really want to be President again in 2011?
I mean, becoming President of Nigeria is really not an easy task; look at what it did to our dear Yaradua. Although the power, the enigma, the fact that your name will be remembered in Nigeria's history forever and all that are cool, but doing the task of a President is really not easy. Keeping board meetings, catching one international flight to another, enforcing stringent policies which could really create you enemies and rendering financial account of contracts both within and after your tenure could all be troubling. Why would IBB want to go through what he went through back in the 1990s?
Here is a brief history of the man we call IBB:
But if someone like IBB doesn't represent the north in 2011, who then would the north present that will be easily acceptable in the south. Would it be wise to stick to the devil we know that the devil we don't know? Hers is a possible list of other contenders from the north that would probably be vying for the same presidential post:Atiku Abubakar
Muhammed Buhari
Attahiru Bafarawa
ALIYU GUSAU
But what if IBB actually wants to become President again? Would you vote for him
What would you say if IBB becomes the unopposed presidential flagbearer for PDP for the 2011 elections?

Re: 2011: IBB For President? Posted by Akin Ojehomon Sr on April 26, 2010 at 10:31:58: It is apparent that many Nigerians have a fascination with stolen wealth and larger than life figures. They fail to see the dangers of bringing back those who have clearly never had Nigerias interests in their agenda. I am saddened that they believe that finding an honest, not so well known individual would be a deterrence in achieving success in an election.
Re: 2011: IBB For President? Posted by PETER AZOLIBE HOUSTON TEXAS on April 26, 2010 at 11:44:12: I am worried about Nigeria, I am worried about the people. Our excellence is on empty noice. We look we see we do not talk but when what we see disappears best and fearless writers will pick up their pens. No matter how long and hard you flog a dead horse it can and can never get up. You call IBB all sort of names and you cannt stand on his way. If he could install OBJ as president and allowed Umaru Yar Adua to be, how then can he not do it again. On two occasions Nigerians failed themselves. ONE was OBJ election and Yar Adua, IBB comming back is a concluded matter unless Nigerians change their nature. If after 16 years you are unable to establish that IBB stole your money you have given him certificate of credibility. The man holds Nigeria in his brefcase and we are at his mercy. He is aware that Nigeria is damaged. Who damaged we do not know. But he said that he can repair it. Who knows how. There are people like that in history after unleashing terror on his fellows later felt remorse and turned a new leaf. ASHOKA did it in India. We are standing on a political pendulum. Force of revolution is swinging on one arm while that of traditinal perpetuation is on the other. Let us see the one that will carry the day.

These are a group of maniacs who feel this nation does not belong to children of ordinary men. May God bring a good leader for us to take us out of this wilderness called Nigeria. IBB should go back to Minna and continue to rue over the mistakes of 8 yrs while in office. People of this nation will rise against all injustices like IBB. God can not be mocked.See what happened in Benin in presence of IBB himself this week. His time of disgrace has just begun.

We need to change Nigeria for the best.

Re: What do you think about IBB for President in 2011? Posted by PETER OPONE on May 06, 2010 at 23:55:08: The memory of Babangida is a horrific imagery to any sane Nigerian who witnessed or read about his eight years draconian rule. Never, never, and never should his name be mentioned in Nigerian leadership. Where is Nigeria's $12billion gulf-oil windfall, or does he think our memory is that poor. Even if Obasanjo could not muster the courage transparently toprosecute him fo corrut charges, because they know they are Commanders-in-thief, that does not diminish the place of his thiefery in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, Abacha was a junior thief in relation to Babangida.
I hate to hear that name again in our power politics, it is an assault and a bruise on the psyche of intelligent Nigerians who have fought to entrench democracy. Babangida should, if he is a human being, go amd moun his wife, Marriam, and forget Nigerian politics.

Re: 2011: IBB For President? Posted by Christopher Richard on May 23, 2010 at 20:15:02: IBB,well there is nothing wrong with him contesting for the president because he is eligible and a Nigerian with same rights like other aspirants, afterall he initiated option A4 which witnessed the most free and fair Election Nigeria ever had that never came to be. The cancellation of June 12 might be as a result of bad advice from his numerous advicers. But I wish he should just play an advisory role, examine areas were he had made mistakes during his time as a military head of states and offer suggestion to the younger generation of leaders, afterall there is nothing new in Aso Rock that he has'nt seen.He should act like a father to the younger generation of leaders and offer his wealth of positive experience which I believe he still posess to the betterment of the Nation instead of clamouring to be president.

IBB had failed not once but twice. He shld b blamed for his misfortune. I can recommend IBB for 2011 presidential election on one condition: he shld becom a christian as being in Christ wll change everythng about him. then he wll hav the fear of God which is the begining of heavenly wisdom. I promise nigerians that he shal perform beyond expectation. IBB, Jesus Christ needs ur services that s whil He had speard ur life.

I need to be anchored in my beliefs and study the patterns of mechanism, how to reconstruct my life through conscious transitions, seek new clarity on priorities and choices. Learn how to cooperate with change. Help others, and my country like IBB. And discover every chapter in my life.Vote IBB for President, come 2011.French Dafinone
