Is Glo finally leaving Ghana? I mean, after all the news and drama surrounding the historic laying of the $800 million fibre optic undersea cable, connecting West Africa with the world, the huge investments, Is Glo being pushed out of Ghana now? This will not be good for Nigeria-Ghana relations as Globacom is a major player in Nigeria's telecoms industry and the only Telecoms company mostly owned by a Nigerian. Are Ghanaians well at all? Why do they have to be so hostile to Nigeria's indigenous Telecoms network? Nigeria and Ghana are the closest West African neighbours and we've had a long history of business and political ties and I don't understand why Ghana is becoming a hostile environment for Nigerian companies wishing to do business there. A lot has already being said about the unnecessary capital requirement which the Ghanaian govt have requested all foreigners doing business in Ghana to provide before they can do business in Ghana. $300,000 is way too much to be asking and to even include Nigeria in the list of foreign nations who have to provide such amount is outrageous.
In Nigeria, Ghanaian businesses are not requested to provide even a tenth of such amount in the country, in fact, there's hardly any difference between a Ghanaian and a Nigerian in Nigeria but in Ghana, the reverse is the case.
Why does Nigeria continue to do big brother to her neighbouring countries while they do not reciprocate. They was a time when the Ghanaian economy was not as promising as it is now and they were not so hostile or make laws that discourages Nigerian businesses then, but now, just because of a little oil money and growing political stability, the country is becoming hostile to Nigerians. It is ok if those protective laws were made for other foreigners other than Nigeria, and ECOWAS ally, I mean, what about ECOWAS? It is like the only country that still believes in ECOWAS is Nigeria while other nations are just pretending. Glo has been campaigning for several months with bill boards, adverts and promos, getting set to roll out in the former Gold Coast but lately certain factors seem bent of frustrating their full launch of the network in the country. There is the alleged encroachment of their allocated frequency by the the National Communications Authority, the Authority which awarded the license to her initially. Also there had been massive attacks on hundreds of her bill boards and banners placed across the country and the govt is not showing any concern or offering the required protection to her assets.
I hope it's a Joke or all a big misunderstanding. but Glo cannot just leave Ghana, if not Ghana and Nigeria, where else. I hope the people concerned make urgent corrections where necessary.
