Guess who's carrying the golden world cup now? It's the Spaniards.
Spain tactically beat Germany in the semi-finals in order to get a place in the finals. It was a narrow defeat because the Germans were equally good and could have scored a couple of times.
Now, at the finals, it was Spain vs Netherlands
Two great football giants(Brazil and Argentina) had already being eliminated from the competition and the prize seemed to favour European countries. Uruguay also slipped into the semi-final because they played well. They gave a tough time to the Netherlands who had the gods on their side and qualified for the final to face Spain.
It was a highly tensed match and they both played well but with Spain having about 58% control of the ball. The match was for a long while on the 0 - 0 scoreline until it entered extra time and played for the first 10 minutes. The both teams tried changing tactics and playing faster than they did at the beginning of the game. Spain made a couple of substitutions and in the final few minutes of the match, they put in Torres who helped Iniesta score the winning single goal. This brought joy to the Spanish team as well as the fans because they had played a good game all the while without any goals, but that goal in the final minute was enough for the trick. Also, we remember that it might have been due to the porosity of the Dutch team's defense whose team had been reduced to 10 following a second yellow card.
The Oranje boys were so depressed but Spain was already celebrating especially Iniesta who removed his shirt and was given a yellow ard for the referee.
The game ended 1 - 0 in favour of Spain who truly deserved to be the winners of the 2010 South African World Cup. >>> Watch the Highlighs
