We know that in Nigeria, the way we use cell phones makes it look as if we depend on them for everything and in anything we do. It had become like a second god such that anytime we aren't with them, it becomes as if we are restless and back in the 80s. Mobile phones are an important part of human life in the 20th century but it could also be hazardous to your health. We handle cell phones much more than we handle anything else in our life and not knowing that a lot of bacteria actually live and breed on our cell phones could pose a great danger to our health.
Cell phones are amongst our dirtiest accessories speaking plainly. We use them for many years without washing or sterilizing it and washing of your hands may not be sufficient to kill the bacteria in them.
At times you may receive a call when you are in the toilet and forget to wash your hands before picking your phone up. You may also lend your phone to someone else but those are just secondary cases. The fact that we handle and use them everyday, put them in our pockets and place them on the tables for years and years without washing makes them a good place for bacteria and microbes to thrive. Think of it, you wash your clothes, take your bath, brush your teeth, clean your shoes and frequently wash you hands but what quickly re-introduces bacteria to ourselves is the mobile phone. It has become one of our most useful asset and yet one of the most dangerous as it can lead to food poisoning leading to illnesses like Typhoid and other bacterial infection. You may keep a good hygiene and occasionally sterilize yourself but what about your handset? It is said that the mobile phone carries about 18 more times more germs than the toilet handle in a toilet.
To protect yourself, you need to make sure that before anything goes into your mouth from your hands, wash your hands and keep away from your cell phone. Washing your hands with an antiseptic or sterilizer could help reduce the bacteria and germs passing from your hands to phone and vice versa. The aim is to actually prevent germs from entering into your food due to lack of proper hygiene. Also there are modern ways of killing off or sterilizing your phone from microbes but it is not common yet.
The bottom line is that whatever you do, you need to be aware that it is not just the food source that could be infected with bacteria but also your mobile phone and you should prevent it from getting into your system
