I'm here and I'm sweating as I write this but for the past two weeks or so there has not been any light in my part of Lagos even before the strike due to the recent ongoing installation of more transformers in Lagos by PHCN in order to make light readily available to residents but as they were rounding up this installation, PHCN goes on strike and it a nationwide strike.
For more than 48 hrs now so the Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN formerly and popularly known as NEPA) has gone on a nationwide strike.
Any Nepa official that is caught as I've seen, working during this period would be arrested by the staff union and the strike by the government workers is to protest the arrears that they were being owned by the govt after a salary increase in the past. The arrears in question still being owned to the more than 38,000 workers nationwide amounts to about N53bn after only N5bn has been paid from July.Workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), said they would not back down on the action until the government implements the 150 per cent increase in their salaries and pay their monetization arrears, which had been outstanding since 2003. It appears that this strike is not expected to end soon and this may even affect Jonathan Goodluck's chance of declaring his interest for 2011 Presidential elections.
Already, Nigeria's economy both at the Capital market as well Manufacturing sector has been on a slow move and this will only complicate matters.
I think perhaps this is the best time anyone who wants to enjoy the last quarter of this year at least with light to take a vacation to Ghana. Nigeria, when will there ever be constant power supply? We need to light up Naija and perhaps start thinking about not what our country can do for us but what we can do for her. This has shown that there is an urgent need to hands off power supply to the private sector. Solar energy may be the best option for future Nigerian businesses.

They are on their own right because the so called FG have been promising but nothing has been done so i do not see any reason or fault. I advice the federal govt to act against this situation because it is really unfair
