I don't pray for this to happen but from all previous national elections in Nigeria that I can remember, say from 1999, there has always been one violence after another during or after the elections. The big question then remains, what is the President and Commander in chief of the Armed forces doing about this? What is the Inspector General of police doing about this? How are their preparations for 2011 even though they know that there has always been blood in every general elections?
There would be blood is the title I chose to give this write-up because it is synonymous with every genera election we have been having since our democracy and we need to start keeping statistics of how violence has affected us during these periods. The common crimes that occur during this period range from ritual killings, kidnappings of people and ballot boxes, arson, assassinations, armed robberies and so on.
I hope no more blood will be let and we need to start praying against it because bad politics can destroy a nation and people can even go to war just because of the outcome of an election when they feel unjustly treated.
I think the best way the Federal govt should handle elections is to if possible quadruple the level of security during this time. If possible, the govt should enlist more people into the police or army before going for an election of this magnitude.
In 2011, whether there will be blood or not, I hope the best candidates winStill Interested in the There will be blood movie? You can watch a preview below:
It is based on a story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business. The story is kind of similar to the family called Nigeria that makes people want to go all the way to the top just because of oil money.
