Although he had long kept publicly silent about his intentions for 2011, it appears that going by stories in the news, Nigeria;s current President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck will declare his interest in the 2011 Presidential election on Saturday at Abuja.
Now activities in the political city and Nigeria's capital has risen to the top as the incumbent would mount and declare his desire to remain in Aso Rock beyond 2011.
This week has brought a lot of tension in Abuja at the same time good politicking as IBB became the first person to make a declaration for the hot Seat at the Eagles Square on Wednesday. IBB was able to bring top political leaders and strong support from both current politicians, retired generals and big wigs from middle Nigeria. IBB's flag off was a flambouyant one and was preceded by a lot of reports, stories and rallies in key northern and southern Nigerian states before his final declaration at Abuja. The campaign was aired for many hours on AIT and NTA and some other stations.
On the same day in which IBB made his formal declaration, Jonathan also made an online declarations, perhaps to intimate and prepare his online fans who are already more than 200,000 having increased from about 150,000 some weeks ago. It is expected that Jonathan's Facebook account may actually help give him more votes, especially at the primaries assuming the facebookers become registered members of PDP.
How will Jonathan's outing tomorrow look like? Who and who will take a stand with him? Will Obasanjo be there? Recently in the news, we heard of the resignation of Remi Babalola (Minister of special duties) on health grounds which makes one think;"Is it really just on health grounds or does it also have to do with politics."
We don't yet know who will be Jonathan's campaign manager and I'm thinking it may be someone he trusts very much, someone who may have served in his cabinet.
