In the papers today, it reads that IBB and Ojukwu are in secret meeting to see how to rally Igbo support for the former.
IBB is n the run for the next presidential election and he has made an astoundingly popular declaration before a mammoth crowd at the Eagles Square just last week, practically dividing Abuja. Ojukwu on the other hand had earlier made a public support for IBB's candidacy urging Ndigbo to support him but we all know that it's all politics.
Emeka Ojukwu was a Biafran warlord and ex-army General that was seen as fighting for the Igbo cause. He is seen as an Igbo leader and practically the most popular among them, besides Ohanaeze - the leading Igbo culture group.
IBB is coming as a northerner and would need the support of the south to win. It is clear that it would be easier for him to gather a lot of votes in the middle belt and some northern states but he will also need southern votes. After trying to court the South west and his campaign suffered violent protests, he is perhaps looking for votes from Igbo, Nigeria's third largest ethnic group, according to the national census.
Will Ndigbo support him?
Well Igbo people really have no strong beef towards IBB and he may find it easier winning their support if Jonathan fails to win it but will Ndigbo support him? Well I think not since Jonathan comes from the former Eastern region and Igbo people would rather support a closer neighbour than a farther northern ally.
I think Ndigbo would find it easier to support Jonathan than IBB but if Jonathan does not win the primary, then maybe Igbo people would support IBB rather than a Buhari or an Atiku.
