I had been hearing a lot about the academic strike by lecturers in the South Eastern Universities but have not really had time to dwell on it. I'm still a bit confused as what kind of strike it is - ASUU or not? I used to think that when ASUU strikes, it would be a national strike in all Universities but now it is only in the South East that ASSU seems to be on strike.
My question is; Has ASSU been decentralized? Has it broken up into zones or is this something else?
It wasn't until I Googled the news relating to this strike that I learnt that the ASUU strike in the south East actually had been going on for more than 2 months now and that even the national ASUU had gone on a three days warning strike to support their members in that region.
Why did South East ASUU go on strike in the first place? Well it was due to a disagreement between the governors in the South East and the respective ASSU members in that region. Here is a breakdown of what really caused it:

Why did South East ASUU go on strike in the first place? Well it was due to a disagreement between the governors in the South East and the respective ASSU members in that region. Here is a breakdown of what really caused it:
The universities and their campuses in the five South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states have remained shut since last July 22, following a strike embarked upon by lecturers in the institutions to get the respective state governments to implement the letters of the 2009 agreement between ASUU and the federal government. There has been a wide-ranging public outcry against the attitude of the state governors, who appear not to have shown signs of being concerned about the closure of the universities in their domainSo it was really all about money eh! Or at least it was mostly about money. Now it appears that ASUU will be joining them by going on a sympathetic strike for 3 days beginning from Oct 11 to 13 2010 all in an effort to compel South Easter governors to give ASUU their due

Re: Ongoing Academic Strike in the South East Posted by V O S on October 20, 2010 at 12:28:24: It is quite sympathetic to realize that the ongoing strike was as a matter of inability of the five eastern state governors to implement what has been settled by the federal govt. Listen let me tell you the truth you need to know. I hope you could remember that this strike isn't nationwide neither is it for the whole state universities in the federation, then if such be the case, what is the problem with these five allies? What is really happening is that this fellows of common goal have common agenda, they have in their farms unharvested gubbernitorial plans to stock their ban, of course, implementing their aggrement with ASUU would be a fault to their holes and as a result, not welcome. To be sincere, i really pity my fellow students because if we don't shout, protest and promulgate this issue to attract the attention and intervention of the federal govt., then i think the ban placed on the eastern state universities, would be lifted after April 2011 polls after which they would have tie their aims in their bans(govt. House) with ASSU's money..oh. Watch & pray so that they dont prevail.
