NYSC is a good thing for our country as it is a service offered to a nation by our youths irrespective of your place of origin. The idea is to relocate young Nigerians to other parts of the country, after their higher education, in order to let them see the big picture. It is an act of patriotism that aims to unite us as one nation. Lately however, there has been a lot of violence in the country that has led to the senseless killing of people in northern Nigeria and for now it appears that some states should already be tagged red zones - since they have been having a high level of violence. Now NYSC has posted graduates to different parts of the country to serve but would it make sense to post a young stranger to a troubled zone? Certainly not! Imagine if you or someone you know got posted to Borno, would you advise the person to still heed that call to serve in that state? Cetainly not! We have to really call a spade a spade.
If corpers get killed for being posted in those troubled states, people ought to be blamed for it and so I think it would be a wrong decision to keep posting corpers to the most violent states in Nigeria. The best thing to do is for now and until the security situation improves, NYSC ought to stop posting young people to such red zones in Nigeria. We have over 20 states in Nigeria which are still relatively peaceful so there really is no justification or wisdom in posting graduates to a land where they could be killed for what they do not know.
