Lagos(traditionally called Eko) is a great city and actually the major economic hub of Nigeria's economy. Lagos is also a predominantly Yoruba state due to it's location in south western Nigeria. Lagos was also Nigeria's first and former Capital which has made it one of the most populated and ethnically diverse cities in Nigeria.
About Lagos
Although the most spoken language in Lagos is Yoruba, there are other spoken languages too which can help influence the outcome of electoral results.
If the ruling People's Democratic Party was really serious about winning Lagos, my guess is they could do it. How? Well I believe understanding the state could be the key.
Lagos is also referred to as no man's land due to the fact that there was very little population living on the island before the coming of the British. Of course there were original Lagosians who can lay claim as indigenes living in the state for more than 100 years now. However with the massive urban drift to the city, it has become the most ethnically diverse making the original indigenes to become minority in number but still a majority in culture and language.
Ethnic Diversity exists
The current population situation in Lagos shows that there are more settlers residing in the state than the original indigenes. Some of these settlers which includes the Yorubas(from other south western states), Igbos, Edos, Efiks and Hausas. However what really is the difference between a settler and an indigene especially when the settling family has lived mostly in the state for more than 20 years.
Current Politics in Lagos state
The ruling party in Lagos is actually the Action Congress(AC) which metamorphosed from the Alliance for Democracy(AD) mostly perceived as a pro-Yoruba political party. Although the AC is actually doing well in Lagos now with the current governor Fashola, there still exists opportunities for the PDP to win or at least make a strong showing in 2011.
As I said, the AC in Lagos is seen as a pro-Yoruba party although other resident ethnicities could make up to more than 40% of the voting population. Now what about the other minorities? That appears to be one of the problems I feel the Action Congress carried over from the AD and it could be a useful opportunity for the PDP to make use of.
So based on several other issues, I think the PDP could be able to win Lagos state just by doing exactly opposite of what the AC is currently doing Here are several opportunities which PDP could use in gaining more political relevance in Lagos state
- Give more opportunities to minorities
- Present a Christian candidate when the AC presents a Muslim candidate
- Present a Male or female candidates where the AC uses only Male candidates
- Promise to reduce taxation for manufacturers
- Present an Igbo/Edo governorship/deputy candidates where the AC presents only Yoruba candidates
- Be seen to be religiously diverse in their campaigns
- Be seen to be ethnically diverse in her campaignsIn all, the PDP campaign, if it really wants to win Lagos, should be interested in providing a change or an alternative where the Action Congress would not be willing to. At times it's not just about the money but it is also about the people, after all, their slogan says, "Power to the People!"

Well it is quite possible. PDP still have a lot of supporters in Lagos or at least those who supported the late Funsho Williams. At the 2003 election which Funsho did against Tinubu, he lost by about 100,000 votes. So I still think that the Pdp with the federal might could still win but it may be a close call. Unless they don't want to win Lagos just yet

Let us team us to Capture Lagos PDP Posted by Apostle B. David Ezeugo on April 19, 2011 at 06:15:24: All we need is Changes, since God himself had made automatically change from the Presidency, God made Change in the Yar'adua and replace him with Goodluck Ebele (Merciful)Jonathan. Now we have to imitate God and make our own changes in the Governorship and copy the step of God. For God knows what is good for His Children, that was the reason He had shown us example on what to do, so for our own obedient to the will of God, we should imitate HIM by making change in Governorship this time. I want to use this week to campaign for PDP, PDP is accommodating Political Party No discrimination or tribalism. Ruling Party in Lagos is against non-Yorubas, PDP will eradicate nuisance which was employed here and there by the ACN to disturb people. Ruling party had made life difficult to the indigenes of Lagos; impose unnecessary taxes to even student and pupils of nursery school level. Okada (Commercial Cyclist) are disturbed with levies and taxes by all sort of ruling party's nuisance. LASMAN are use to disturb motorist unlawfully, to raise fund for their selfish interest. Marketers are disturbed unlawfully by KAI. Taxes were imposed on Churches (House Of God) sign post of Churches were destroy and arrested by the ruling party's agent.Business Sign post were kidnapped by ruling party's agent and taking to their office for ransom fees of Naira 50,000. For the lowest before any other thing will be done.
Bill Board's to advertise businesses in Lagos were destroy out of wickedness by the ruling ACN. Company could no longer write their product's or firm on their vehicles because of the impose unbearable taxes by the ACN Non-Indigenes were asked to go out of Lagos with a compensatory amount of Naira 3,000.
From Marketers, there goods are being collected by force the KAI group for their personal interest as instructed by the ruling governor, some goods are burnt and the traders a being taking to the Prison without reason. Black Maria are being use to arrest indigenes of Lagos states on the street. Roads we built only for the rich and were few are living. Nothing was done in the areas like, Agege, Ajegunle, Orile, Ikorodu, Alimosho, Abule Ega, Ishaga, Ketu, Isolo, Oshod, Mafuluku, Ifako Ijaiye, Depumu, somolu, mushin, welma Apapa, good number of Amowo Odofi area , Navy Town , Okoko miko, Shasha, Ejigbo, etc, these are were people are living in Lagos, We should fight against hatred and live as one Nigeria, we are indigene, we should fight against tribalism or languagesm. Mistake had occur first through the ruling party in Lagos, so we have to make change and vote for Love for one another not to support hatred as seen in the ACN Lagos. PDP is love, Good luck and Unity and Blessing, TO ALL, IN Lagos and outside Lagos, we should team up to follow the step that GOD had started and we will achieve GOD loving-kindness to all in Lagos and the ruling National Party PDP will focus his interest in Lagos and provide whatever that is required to help and prospers indigenes of Lagos state only you we all should come up together to cast our divine vote to the PDP candidate of Lagos STATE as now the party is ordained by God's establishment.Changes are making everywhere in Nigeria, Changes in the Presidency now it is our turn to make changes in the Governorship. vote PDP vote for GOOD CHANGE, vote for your Security, development, business freedom and less taxation, vote for Love for one another, vote PDP for it is the WILL of the Living God that we make changes now.
I have a lot, but I need opportunity this week to prosper my campaign to the public, in need your support. please contact me via email: apostledavidezeugo@yahoo.comThanksApostle B David Ezeugo.
