Are newspapers allowed to do this? I saw on the front page of the Sun newspapers today, same day that is meant for the PDP presidential primaries, what looked like an advert promoting Atiku and discrediting Jonathan Goodluck. The duo are the main contenders for the PDP ticket for 2011 presidential election. The contest is seen as a very important and crucial step in selecting Nigeria's next president. A blessing by the ruling People's Democratic Party almost results in the winner becoming the next President.
Why would newspapers allow politicians to carry out negative campaigns against their opponents? Is that not what we refer to as dirty politics? Well I don't subscribe to that kind of tactics to winning elections. Just present your own agenda and allow people to decide Politicians should learn to respect each other without going the extent of discrediting or dishonoring others, after all, we are all brothers in one big family.
