The former EFCC chairman is running for President in 2011 on the platform of the Action Congress which is practically the fastest growing party currently in Southern Nigeria. The Action Congress seems to be using its iconic broom in successfully winning former PDP states for it party with Lagos as its stronghold and then Edo and Ekiti joining its fold.
Perhaps racing for President may be a tall ambition for the relatively new party since it is not yet well spread across the federation like other older parties, being seen as a regional party, with the selection of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu from the North, it seems all that is about to change and to at least cause panic for the ruling PDP in some core states.
The identity of who becomes Ribadu's running mate and possible Nigeria's next Vice President assuming the AC surprisingly wins the election is now the issue. Several names have been propped up in the media such as that of Ngozi Iweala, Chris Ngige and Sunny Ugochukwu.
Whoever becomes Ribadu's running mate could influence how much support the AC would get from the Federation when the votes start tripping in. Will a Northerner or Southerner be a good ally for Nuhu Ribadu? Well when ou consider that it is hard to win an election in Nigeria without the Muslim and Christian element as well as with an ethnic mix, I think Ribadu needs to choose a Southern Christian with a honourable background and political weight. He would probably select someone from the Yoruba or Igbo tribe if he really wants to make s strong showing in the 2011 elections for him and for the Action Congress of Nigeria.
So who will it be?
Who will run with Nuhu Ribadu?
