Though slowly but steadingly, they progressed all the way to the finals having met some tough teams and today they were scheduled to play with the defending champions from Equitorial Guinea. Nigeria's Super falcon has won a couple of championships in the past and have progressed to final stages in previous world cups but today was not an easy one - It could go either way.
The female champions from Equitorial Guinea had a deadly strike force and had all it took to win today's match but it seemed that the gods were not on their side as Nigeria got an early goal through Perpetua Nkwocha in the first half. Guinea had more problems as they helped the Nigerians with 2 own goals, although they first equalized the early goal. Equitorial Guinea then scored twice against Nigeria but scored against themselves with 2 own goals which worsened their state and then there a final goal by Oparanozie which moved Nigeria to 4 goals.
It was an exciting match and a lively audience as supporters for both teams tried to woo their players to their best. Nigerian fans had the last laugh as the game ended 4 - 2 in favour of Nigeria as the 2010 CAF Women's champion. This automatically qualifies them for the World Cup. The Nigerian media has been talking a lot about the Guinean team presenting a couple of male players as females but as I looked at one number 8 man/woman in question, I can't really say but the truth is that female football may at times make a woman look manly. We should let CAF decide afterall, even some Nigerian players look manly.Final Comments:
I hope they don't change this team as they should be left as our first eleven. The Falcons played very well and we don't need any technical crew restructuring the team as was done to our Super Chickens, sorry, Super Eagles.
