It works. It is not fraudulent. It is cash backed. It is actually a prepaid card.
The Nigerian credit card is readily available in almost every Nigerian bank of today as unlike in the past when credit cards were a rarity and the closest a potential online buyer from Nigeria could shop with was with a Virtual credit card that carries a US address. Unlike VCCs, the Nigerian credit card carries a Nigerian billing address, denominated in naira, USD or GBP and can be used to make purchases on the internet.
More online shoppers and bank account holders in Nigeria now have more access to credit cards and they come in various forms and can be personalized or non-personalized. Personalized Nigerian credit cards:
Most of these cards have the names of the user embossed on it and can carry larger amount of funds. To get these kind of cards, one may need to apply first and wait for a few days before collection at your bankNon-Personalized Nigerian credit cards:
There are cards that are not initially tied tied to a user and are the common type as it allows users to just walk up to the bank and pick one and register his name to it. Once the bank activates the card, it will then be linked to the personal details of the user who applied for it. There cards don't usually come embossed with the name of the user but carry a unique id that can be used to link to the user.Final comments:
Credit card in Nigeria has helped give a lot of people here more access to useful tools and services on the internet since most of the goodies were mostly sold online. This has equally made the price of alternative credit card much cheaper such as the VCCs and online payment agents.
If you are an internet merchant who accepts credit card payments from buyers, next time a Nigerian presents a credit card to you that carries a Nigerian billing address, you should treat it with honour.
