It has been reported in the news that riots and looting has broken out in some states in North probably as a result of Jonathan's lanslide victory at the polls and as results have been released.
It seems that a lot of pro-Buhari supporters or Anti-Jonathan groups have used this opportunity to wreck havoc in their states to express their anger at the results. Although the actually cause of the riots and violence has not been exactly proven, it is believed to be as a result of the recent political results which were not too favorable to their preferred candidates.
There is already tension in politically violent states like Kaduna, Jos and Borno as the army has been deployed to those places.
Already there is said to be pockets of riots in states like Kaduna and Bauchi and it is escalating to states like Gombe, Katsina and Kano. I just watched a CNN report showing protesters or rather terrorists carrying arms people. We need to be careful now and we only need to have more security in Nigeria. This will be a true test for Jonathan's defense team.
Nigeria's 2011 presidential elections has been perhaps the most peaceful and popular with very low chance for election riggers and the president himself have said many times that he would not use his office to influence the outcome. The elections witnessed a massive turnout of votes unlike other times in the past as people tend to be gaining confidence in the activities of INEC and the President so far. It is only surprising that riots should be happening in an election that was clearly the freest since 1999.
