Today if you remember is the day we remember Nigeria's former military head of service. He died in office a few years back on June 8, 1998 while in Abuja. General Sani Abacha was Nigeria's 6th Military head of state after taking power from a civilian interim president, Ernest Shonekan.
There were some who benefited from Abacha's rule while they were also others who opposed it due to their support for freedom and democratic rule. Now it has been about 12 years ago and it is only fitting that we remember this since he is part of Nigeria's history. His successor was General Abdusalam Abubakar who handed over to a democratically elected president in 1999. His military predecessor was General Ibrahim Babangida who handed over to Ernest Shonekan after an 8 years rule as Military president. So what do you think we should do concerning this day? Should we celebrate him or what?
