The Federal government has already made it intentions known on the issue of fuel subsidy. The new policy now is to remove the current subsidy tied to it and in this way help in deregulating the sector. This probably means that the price of fuel will go up and will in the long term be determined by the forces of demand and supply and the private enterprise involved.A lot of people are worried at this and those who may most be affected are the poor and low income earners. How do you feel about this current plan as it seems that the scrapping of this fuel subsidy is set to take effect from 2012?Do you support or oppose the stoppage of fuel subsidy?

Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Dukson Okey on November 10, 2011 at 02:02:14:
Salaries paid to Civil Servants does not worth the removal of fuel subsidy. unless the country salary would be uniform, it would be accepted. we all attend the same market, Primary, secondary and universities. Also the salaries of the House members, chief executives, Special Assistance,President and Vice etc should be reviewed.Because they do not know what is happening to ordinary Nigerian.
It would be better if the president would one day come out disguise self go out there in the street either with leg or someone should walk along with him see things by himself not through what they told him before taking personnel decision, Please.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Chris Gift on November 11, 2011 at 03:15:56: The intention of the Federal govt would have been the normal thing to do in a normal clime, but Nigeria is far from being normal as every govt policy is always hijacked by few corrupt individuals who use every such policy to enrich themselves at the expense of the general public whom they ar meant to serve. So my opinion is that it should be suspended for a later date when corruption would have been reduced. Also the govt should tackle the mafia in the oil industry since they ar known to our security agencies
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Nwenem ifeanyi on November 18, 2011 at 03:57:28: Franklyn speaking, @ d moment they should not remove it now. Bc things are hard now. God bless Nigeria.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Joseph Obianwu on November 18, 2011 at 04:49:42: Yes I support fuel subsidy removal. It will eliminate the secret oil importing mafia gang without lifting a finger.
It will encourage people to invest in oil refining, which will in turn reduce the price of refined oil products. The people quoting the price of refined petroleum products in other countries did not tell our people the number of refineries in those countries. Let us move forward and stop delaying the inevitable.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Muhammad NaIya on November 18, 2011 at 13:40:26: No, because in the first instance the government has failed woefully to prove that there is indeed a subsidy. All along the government complains of a cabal! If tthe Executive does NOT want to end the Cabal of Corrupt Officials at NNPC, PPRA, PPMC and their hangers-on so be it but Nigerians cannot subsidise the corrupt.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Ifeanyi in Lagos on November 21, 2011 at 10:09:34:
It makes economic sence to allow market forces fix demand and price. No serious investment can be attracted into the developement of the oil sector at the current regulated price. The problem i have and which i think most people who oppose subsidy removal is that the gains of the removal will be looted and end up in private pockets. They will see it as excess money and it will go the way of previous "excess funds".Corruption in high places is the cause of the opposition to subsidy removal.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Umaru musa on November 22, 2011 at 05:28:46: The government of the day is completely unfair ???? the people she is governed. Fuel subsidy is the only thing we enjoy for being nigerians which is about to be robbed off. They might just be precipitating an uprising in this nation allah help us.

Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Ray Parker on November 25, 2011 at 20:38:47: I totally disagree with the removal of fuel subsidy because it will not solve the problem. Govt should compel Oil Companies operating in Nigeria to have refineries for local consumption of the Nigerian people.

Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by Jimoh G. on December 03, 2011 at 03:48:27: Please, the removal of fuel subsidies is not the solution to Nigeria problems. If the refineries are put in order to run at full capacity, stable and appreciative power supply is maintained and the government should promote Agricultural activities.

the removal of fuel subsidy would only make the standard of living fall more. The government raise the money to finance the subsidy from citizens so i dont see any reason why it shuld b removed instead they should source money for other developmental projects elsewere...... Am strongly against the removal of fuel subsidy n its my earnest prayer that it doesnt happen.
Re: Do you support the scrapping of Fuel subsidy? Posted by OLAROGBA EMMANUEL OLUWAFEMI on December 01, 2011 at 04:59:04: Fuel subsidy should neither be removed nor scrapped because the government wanted Nigerians to pay for havoc caused by the government. It is the failure on the part of the government who failed to refine her God freely given OIL in the country. President Jonathan should not send Nigerians to captivity of wretchedness and servitudeness again,as his proposed action of fuel subsidy removal is not God's will for Nigeria. I dont see any goodluck in carrying out this in a country where majority of her citizens are not feeding well.He should not and if he does, God who hears the prayer of the poor and needy remains the right JUDGE.

could not be used for building infrastructure, it is prepostrous to expect a right thinking nigeria to accord this same government with a purpoesful sense and direction over the fuel subsidy.

Nigeria used to be the highest exporter of agricultural products in the past, and almost all our infrastructures in the 90s were build from the sales of this product and not from crude oil...why always crude oil?Our leaders have eaten up our economy like cacarworms.....God help Nigeria...

I do not subscribe to the removal of fuel subsidy and if the government must remove it, all our refineries must be fully operational and new one built to meet our local demand. If all this are in place the government can stop subsiding it. Let see how much the product will be sold. What have nigerians gain from subsidy removal during obasanjo's rule? Why do jonathan want to add to our suffering? Is the way to say thank you to nigerian that voted him in as president. God bless nigeria

I do not support the removal of oil subsidy. Nigeria has no good energy generating system yet. our homes depend on electricity generating sets. we need good rail transport and a lot more befoure anyone can think of scrapping the fuel subsidy. I think we should concern ourselves now with the removal of insecurity, unemployment and poverty in general.
