When people feel threatened by the presence of other people, they tend to react in a certain way and at times this includes violence. The increasing violence in northern Nigeria after the victory of a Christian president is something worth writing about. There has been many explanations experts have offered by experts and politicians on why violence has been persisting in northern Nigerian states especially after general elections. The explanation that most seems acceptable is that which proposes that it is politically related violence and the work of politicians to make the incumbent's administration ungovernable. This seems mostly easy to accept as true because going from newspaper publications, there are a couple of politicians who said that Jonathan can never be president again after his Yaradua-Jonathan administration expires. Political violence has been a recurring evil in northern Nigeria mostly succeeding general elections in the country.
Northern Nigeria is mostly inhabited by Muslims but there are also significant Christian populations who are the major victims of such violence. Political thugs have become used to attacking and killing Christians whenever they feel that victory did not come their way. Christians have always been the target of political thugs wishing to express their dissatisfaction of electoral results and times without number, the blood of Christians have been spilled in the north. It seems that most muslims in the north have a rather uncivil way of expressing their anger and they comprise mostly of unemployed, poorly educated people who are useful tools in the hand of elite politicians who can buy them for a dollar or two to cause havoc in northern cities. Since Nigeria's independence, the north has always been the most dangerous place for Christians to live in as most uncivilized Muslims, suffering from Christianophobia see them as a threat to their way of life. The Christian life is quite different from the Islamic way of life although both religions have a single father called Abraham. Christians believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God while Muslims believe that Mohammed is the true messenger of God and the last. It can be really hard for Christians to live together with Muslims especially if either of them are still living as uncivilized poorly educated barbarians. It is quite possible for Christians and Muslims to live in peace if everyone has respect for each others religion and see it as God's will for them. Not everyone will be a Muslim nor will everyone be a Christian but we shall all be judged by God on the last day so why kill ourselves now. Most educated Muslims in northern Nigeria really know how to be peaceful and know their boundaries when living with Christians but it seems that where peace continues to elude the north is mostly from poorly uneducated and uncivilized blood thirsty Islamic radicals who are easy tools in the hands of disgruntled politicians and the elite for causing havoc by killing Christians whenever they see them as a threat or cause of their misfortune.Christianophobia is a major root of continuing violence in northern Nigeria and there is an urgent need to educate the people on what Nigeria really stands for because without religious tolerance, there really can never be any Nigeria existing. Breaking up as a country may be the only option left if Christians are not allowed to live peacefully in Nigeria, a nation that is home to hundreds of millions.
