One of the great services which GTBanks offers to her customers is the ability to check one's bank balance by simply using sms.There are not many banks in Nigeria which offer this service and I think they all ought to.GTBank's sms balance query service is simply a text based service initiated from a bank registered gsm number.If for instance, your account number is 0090419419 and you want to know the balance, all you need to do is send an sms in the format "bal 0090419419" without the quotes to 08100550000.You should get an sms reply shortly if the request was made from a phone number that you've already registered with your bank account.Things you'd need to check balance via sms
===================
- Your 10 digit bank account number
- Mobile phone service
- SMS request
- Receiving number i.e. 08100550000Can anyone check my account balance?
========================
Precisely no. I guess some people may be scared that anyone would be able to see their account balance but it doesn't work like that. The bank would only send replies to gsm numbers that are already in your account registration form and not from any random number.
SMS balance requests vs customer service visits
=====================
A lot of bank customers in Nigeria tend to make a trip to the bank frequently just to check their bank balance. Some also go to ATM centres while others also call their banks. Only few actually use internet banking or sms requests and these are actually the easiest, fastest and more economic way t check your account balance. You can money and time while you can just check your bank balance at home.How much does it cost? I just used it and it only cost me about 5k on MTN network. So the cost is just the same as you would send sms to anyone.If your phone doesn't receive any replies after sending the request, maybe you need to check things like if you are are using the proper 10 digit account number and also if it is the same phone with which you receive transaction alerts. If it is the same phone and proper account number, then you should just give it time or contact your bank for complaints.
