According to the report and time table released by INEC, the elections for the Anambra state governorship race will hold on November 16 2013, a Saturday. Already, front runners for various political parties have started emerging as Anambra is a hot bed which has a large number of billionaire aspirants running for the single post.In a state that is remarked as having lowest poverty level in Nigeria, the task of winning a governorship election is Anambra is a huge one. Peter Obi is the current and incumbent governor who has already served 2 terms in office and is set to install his successor from Anambra state in a party, the APGA, which is seen as a growing grassroot party in the state that has given the PDP and other parties a run for their money.Obi did not become governor on a platter of gold as he had to wade through lots of rubbish and struggle just to claim his prize which was unjustly denied him by the PDP. He won after numerous court cases and appeals which removed the PDP and Ngige from an office they illegally occupied. Since Obi became governor, Anambra people have unceasingly supported him and would probably keep doing so for his party which remains a strong political force in the state. Now that elections are drawing near, candidates are already rallying their parties and competing against other members to win the votes of delegates. For parties like the APC and APGA, it would probably be an easy task to select a flag bearer but for a big party like the PDP, the high number of billionaires rallying for the single post may cause some confusion.PDP members still rule the state to some degree since they hold still hold a lot of political offices but they still have to slot it out with the APGA and APC who are all bent on dominating each other by the time November elections happen.Who becomes the governor elect after November elections have been held? Only time will tell. May the best candidate win.
