To open a normal savings account in Nigeria at a bank may require some effort as you might be required to bring in a passport photo, id card, proof of address, referee(s) and so on. However, the game is changing as more people are being encouraged to at least open a savings account with little or no need for documents.Forget about those days when opening a savings account would require a lot of documents. Nowadays, more and more Nigerian banks allow people to open a savings account without even having an id card and this would be helpful to a lot of students. One of such easy savings account one can open in Nigeria is UBA Freedom Basic savings account. With this type of account, all the person needs to bring is a passport photo and the funds. In fact, one can open the account with as little as N2000 and no other documents required. It does come with some limits too which can be removed when the holder upgrades his account to a normal savings accountGTBank also has a quick savings account which students can open with just a passport photo. No ids are really required and it can be opened for you with little funds.FCMB also has a quick savings account that can be opened with just N500. I think they call it Naira Wise account
One should however note that these quick saving accounts that require no id card or much documentation do come with some limits such as a maximum deposit of N20,000 and a maximum savings of N200k.I guess, if a student has more than N200 to put in his/her savings account, he could as well be able to provide an id card and proof of address.Just like a normal savings account, students or young people will be able to save money, earn interest on savings, make use of ATM and internet banking service. So, I guess it's a win win for both students and the banks. The good thing is that it allows young people to easily open a savings account and be able to pay for basic things needed for their study without getting broke and parents can fund money into their account in limits of N20k per transaction.
