Fuel scarcity in Nigerian cities

There is currently a persisting Fuel scarcity affecting various Nigerian cities at the moment and the funny thing is that even the Federal govt doesn't know the real cause of the problem. Some officials have already attributed the scarcity to panic buying by consumers but one wonders how much fuel consumers can actually afford to buy and hoard.Fuel scarcity seems to be a perennial problem in Nigeria and the end users are mostly the major victims since they have to pay more for petrol to black market operators selling it at ridiculously high prices. When Fuel scarcity like this one happens, even the Fuel filling stations don't normally sell fuel but rumors have it that they do sell it at night or secretly to black market operators who in turn continue to rip off Nigeria's poor masses.Fuel scarcity in a nation that actually is Africa's leading oil producing nation is a calamity and it normally causes an inflation in the prices of most their goods and services in the country since they are mostly linked to oil. The cost of paying for Services like transportation which is directly linked to the price of Fuel have already increased by more than 50%.Fuel scarcity used to be more common in the past than it is currently now during the days when petrol subsidy was common but after the govt removed a substantial amount of money from the subsidy, the price of petrol already increased which also helped in making fuel more available.With the latest scarcity of Fuel in cities like Lagos and Abuja, a lot of people are concerned that the govt has not effectively nipped the perennial problem and that the reason for the removal of fuel subsidy seems no longer justified.When will Fuel scarcity really become a thing of the past in Nigeria? Are the Petrol marketers behind the scarcity of Fuel in order to make more money? How can a Nation that is so rich keep on surviving with a large number of poor people who are made poorer by a weak and insensitive govt?
