The terrorists which have been terrorizing North eastern states in Nigeria, particularyl Borno state seem to be already losing their war against Nigeria as their latest attempt to invade towns close to Maiduguri have gradually failed. Reports in the media have it that their leader has already been killed and that over 150 of them have willingly surrendered to the Nigerian army who have been unrelenting in their efforts to maintain peace and order in Nigeria. Some people have claimed that Boko haram was a creation of digruntled opposition politicians while others see it as mainly Islamic terrorists who receive funding and support from other terrorists and enemies of Nigeria who want to Islamize the country by force.Boko haram has terrorized Nigerians for about 4 years now and their attacks was originally against Christians and later they faced Muslims and the Nigerian army. They have been responsible for a lot of killings and bomb blasts which rocked many cities in Northern Nigeria such as in Adamawa, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Borno and so on.A lot of Nigerians have been worried for long about the future of Nigeria and many have resorted to prayers to God to help in a situation which seemed untamable and uncontrollable even by the Nigerian government. Some opposition politicians have even blamed the Federal government for the growing violence nad for failing to protect the Nigerian people. In the past, some elders have even recommende an amnesty program for the Boko haram mililants, a gesture which was rejected by the militants but accepted by other militants in Southern Nigeria's Nigeria delta region.Unlike their counterparts in North Eastern Nigeria, the Niger delta militants were less violent and their actions had less human casualties as reports have it that Boko haram has been responsible for over 5000 civililan deaths. Niger delta militants were fighting for a share of oil which was extracted from their region and their attackts weres mostly limited to destroying oil pipelines and kidnaping for ransom. Boko Haram on the other hand didn't really want money since they already seemed to have it but their goal seemed to be the destabilisation of Northern Nigeria and in a bid to make Jonathan's government ungovernable.Boko haram, according the media reports in Nigeria, have been responsible for several bomb blasts in churches, mosques, assasinations of village heads, slaughterings, attacks on police stations and army barracks. When they started, they were not into kidnapping but the only major kidnapping they did later on as the Nigerian army turned more heat against them was the kidnapping of over 200 secondary school girls in Chibok, a move which was widely reported by the global media amd brought more condemnation for them. As at this time, the girls are yet to be found and no ransom has been requested for them by the group. With the recent surrender of many Boko haram militants to the Nigerian army and the fact that the Chibok girls are still missing, it appears that the remainig Boko haram members who are free may be willing to accept a deal to free the Chibok girls for their members who have been arrested. The war against Boko haram by the Nigerian army is not yet totally ended but it seems to be tilting in favour of the Nigerian army for now.
