According to media reports in Nigeria, it seems that Boko haram has agreed to a ceasefire agreement with the Federal government as both sides have opted for peace for the time being. It seems both sides have had a lot of casualties and may have decided to come to a compromise for the sake of both parties. This is the first time Nigerians are hearing of a peace deal with Nigeria's deadliest militant group called Boko Haram. The group which claims it's fighting for Islam has been terrorizing most parts of northern Nigeria particular Borno state and have been responsible for the killing of many civilians who were mostly women and children as well as recruiting a uneducated young men into their group. It seems that are the growth of Islamist fundamentalism the world over, Northern Nigeria too has been engulfed in the war but the fight which has affected a lot of people in Northern Nigeria has affected no just Christians but also Muslims and this has increased the number of people fleeing North Eastern Nigeria to find peace in capital cities.Boko haram has been the most deadliest militant organization in Nigeria has has claimed responsibility for wide scale bombings, military barrack attacks, attacking police stations and so on.Based on this new report, it means that states like Borno state may enjoy relative peace for some time. Already, the group is still believed to be holding over 200 missing Nigerian school girls who were kidnapped at Chibok in Borno state. The Nigerian government is also holding some member of Boko haram as prisoners and they might be a deal for swapping them.Nigerians have been so overwhelmed by the civil war which has engulfed northern Nigeria as a lot of arms have been spread and most violent attacks have already been linked to Boko haram. The wide scale violence in North Eastern Nigeria has created a room for criminals to operate freely and lay the blame on the terrorist group hence it is hard for the police to investigate all cases effectively given that resources are limited. It is said that there is a growing fear among police and military men for Boko haram given the type of advanced weapons they use for their operations. Will this new ceasefire agreement really be the end of all wars in northern Nigeria? Will it be just another opportunity for Boko Haram to regroup and import more arms? Will Boko haram release the kidnapped Chibok girls for their own arrested members? Will the Federal govt grant amnesty to Boko haram?2015 is an election year in Nigeria and I believe that the president would not want the ongoing war to stretch into the election period by 2015 since it may affect the performance of voters.
