During the last Presidential election that was held in 2011, the PDP won overwhelmingly in a wide number of states giving them over 20 million votes in favour of their candidate President Jonathan Goodluck. While the PDP won the majority of votes in 26 out of 37 states of the Federation if we include the FCT, it was only just 9 states that contributed at least over 1 million votes each for the PDP and chances are there might help PDP get a victory again during the 2015 Presidential elections. The 9 States that contributed the most

Rivers state contributed the most votes for the PDP but as it stands now, the state is falling into the hands of opposition but this is only because the governor switched to the opposition party after being elected. His political strength has not been tested yet since elections had not yet been done after he betrayed his party. Many believe that Rivers still remains under the control of the PDP despite the move by the governor to the APC.Imo state which also follows in second place also had its governor betraying his political party, APGA, by switching over the the APC, a party which is not so popular as the PDP or APGA in the South Eastern region, a region that contributed the most bulk votes for the PDP in the 2011 election. APGA has vowed to remove the ungrateful governor for his act of betrayal by the time 2015 elections comes up. APGA is mostly a regional party which has mostly supported the ruling PDP during the presidential elections. It is most likely that the state will still vote in favour of the PDP despite the fact that the state governor is in an opposition party(APC).Delta state remains strongly a PDP state since it's in the South South region and rich in oil revenue. Also, a lot developmental work has been done in the state has constantly endeared them to the ruling party. They remain grateful for the the oil derivation revenue which was sponsored by the PDP and they've had governors who have constantly been faithful in performing their duties. Besides, they are less likely to vote for a party that presents a northern candidate given that they had their own ugly share of the military during the Biafran war. Recall the Asaba massacre? They are mostly opposed to military or northern rule and are more likely to keep voting for southerners most especially if the candidate is from the South South or South East.Plateau state comes in 4th place and is a major stronghold and birth place of the PDP. Plateau is where PDP's founding father's met and formed the PDP with the goal of taking over power from the military government. Names lie Solomon Lar, Alex Ekwueme, Abubakar Rimi. Unlike the core northern Nigerian states which is mostly Muslim and autocratic, Plateau is in the middle belt and mostly Christian with more tolerance for other religions. Plateau people prefer a democratic style of government and are more likely to remain loyal to the PDP.Lagos is regarded as the stronghold of the strongest opposition party the APC which is a combination of 2 major opposition parties and others as well. The main parties that formed the APC were the ACN and CPC. The ACN has loyalty among many voter in the South Western region and the party grew from Lagos to win over other sates in the South West too as at the 201 election. However, since they couldn't win a national elections being mostly a regional party, they had to merge with other opposition parties like the CPC from the north to form the APC. The APC is regarded as the strongest opposition party which the PDP will ever face since the latter took power from the military government in 1999. However, as at the last presidential election in 2011, the state fell into the hands of the PDP during the elections even though it won the governorship elections in many state in the South West. Lagos has the highest number of registered voters for a state in Nigeria at over 5 million people. If history repeats itself, Lagosians would vote for Jonathan Goodluck again in 2015 irrespective of how the party performs at governorship and local elections.Kaduna state voted mostly in favour of the PDP as at the 2011 election and has consistently remained a PDP state. The current Vice president Namadi Sambo is from the state and was the former governor before leaving office in 2010. The state has almost 4 million registered voters and is most likely to remain loyal to the PDP when 2015 elections take place.Abia state is in the South Eastern region of Nigeria and is a state that has stayed mostly in favour of the PDP even though it was in the PPA during the time of Orji Uzor Kalu. It is still a strong hold of the PDP and are likely to keep voting for the party if Jonathan Goodluck remains the PDP candidate. There is little or no opposition party in the state.Akwa Ibom and Anambra are still loyal to the incumbent president and the PDP. Opposition parties don't really thrive there and the ones that do still vote in bulk for the PDP during presidential elections e.g. APGA in Anambra state.
