The ruling People's Democratic Party have again shown why they remain the strongest party in Nigeria and why they are likely to remain in power beyond 2015. At a recent fundraising dinner organized in Abuja to support the presidential campaign for their candidate and incumbent President, Jonathan Goodluck, they raised a mouth staggering sum of N21.27bn. This is the highest sum of money ever raised in Nigeria's political history for any candidate and it's an important factor that can easily help the PDP remain in Aso rock. Main contributors to the PDP's presidential candidate's campaign included investors in oil and gas industry, banking, real estate, PDP governors and others. In Nigerian politics, money is an important factor and the more it's shared, the more likely a candidate is going to win the election.Compared to the Jonathan's fund raising, the Buhari campaign organization has only been able to raise just under N55m and that'a a far cry from what the PDP has raised for their candidate. If elections in Nigeria were merely based on who has the biggest funds, then it would go straight to the PDP but the final results will actually depend on who voters give the power to.Given the amount of money raised to support's Jonathan's re-election bid after having been ceremoniously crowned as PDP's candidate, It won't be out of place to think that Nigerians may start seeing a lot of money being thrown around and even innovative things like helicopters flying across major cities sharing gifts to people as it happened during MKO Abiola's nationwide presidential campaign in 1993.PDP's fundraising may not just be about Jonathan but may also be about recapturing a some of those Nigerian states back that once belonged to the PDP especially the ones in the South West and North East.
