Whoever wins the Presidential election in 2015 would be based on God's choice. I'm not saying I support Buhari or Jonathan but I just want to list out some reasons why anyone may want to vote for Jonathan. Here are 10 reasons I think Jonathan Goodluck should continue in office as President of Nigeria:1. He is from the oil producing region of Nigeria: The Niger Delta which brings over 90% of Nigeria's foreign income.2. He is from the younger generation: Compared to other candidates who are vying for his office, Jonathan comes from a younger generation of Nigerians and has more young people who identify with him. People like Obasanjo and Buhari belong to the older generation and have tasted power before. Nigeria needs ideas and the energy of a younger president like Jonathan.3. He is not against freedom of speech: Unlike in the military days when journalists and activities were arrested and persecuted by the government, Jonathan's administration doesn't even arrest people for things they say even when they are insulting to his person. He allows freedom of speech.4. He gives opportunities to women: Unlike previous military and civilian administrations, Jonathan Goodluck's administration has employed a really high number of women working with him in his cabinet. In the past women used to be neglected and relegated but he has women more opportunity to serve their country at top levels.5. He is a Christian: Nigeria has had more Muslim leaders than Christians and so it's only justified to also allow Christians have access to power for some time.6. He is from the South: Nigeria has also had more Northern leaders ruling us than Southern leaders. It's only fitting to also allow Southern Nigerians occupy the office of president and allowing Jonathan to continue will help make up for it.7. Nigeria's economy has grown to the biggest in Africa: Under Jonathan's administration, business has boomed and Nigeria' GDP has grown to become the biggest in Africa and this will only help attract more foreign investment into Nigeria which will ultimately create more jobs and make people richer.8. Continuity breeds peace and economic stability: Changing government would not be in the interest of Nigeria given that our economy has grown gradually during Jonathan's tenure. To now change govermnent to another political party or president may cause economic instability as a lot of government policies might be changed which in turn may lead to huge losses to foreign investors who may also withdraw their capital. It may also lead to political insecurity given that a lot of politicians, businesses and people have benefitted from the PDP government and given that the party is still strong, it may not be easy for an opposition party to settle in peacefully. 9. Closest alternative is a military man: Truth is that civilians should not be voting back military men or former military men in power. The closest political rival to Jonathan is a military man and voting him in would mean than Nigerians prefer a military man to a civilian which does not spell well for our democracy. Military rule has not done much good to Nigeria and has only impoverished us. To chose a former military man over an incumbent civilian is like inviting the army back to power gradually. Who knows? The next president after that would be IBB or Abdusalam. Does it mean we don't have civilians who are capable or holding the office of president? We need to be patriotic to full blooded civilian rule.10. South South deserves their own 8 years of power: Jonathan's predecessor from the South West ruled for at least 8 years and Yaradua would have also done his except for the fact that he died in office. He has a right to at least rule for 8 years in office for the sake of the South South before another president can take over.
