Under a PDP led Federal government, it was easier for the oil producing state of Bayelsa and home state of the President to win a gubernatorial election and in 2015, the lucky candidate was Henry Seriake Dickson but after the PDP lost at the center and a new political party, the APC took power, it was easier to get a favourable verdict from the courts to upturn the past election and order for a rerun and that election took place in Saturday December 6 2015.There are 8 local government areas in Bayelsa state and based on early results already released by the INEC, the incumbent governor and PDP candidate has already won by a good margin in 4 LGAs.Early results released by the INEC showed that Henry Dickson of the PDP had received 14,602, 28,934, 24,258 and 7,619 votes in Ekeremo, Yenagoa, Sagbama and Kolokuma/Opolokuma LGAs respectively with the APC only getting a win in Brass LGC which is the home base of Timipre Sylva of the APC.With the way results are trickling in, it shows to be clearly in PDP's favour and shows that Bayelsa people are still loyal to the party of the former President and brother Jonathan Goodluck. If the final results confirm that the PDP and Dickson had won, It would be history in the making as it would be the first time in the history of Bayelsa state for a sitting governor to win 2 terms in office consecutively. There has been reported cases of violence in the state especially in Southern Ijaw LGA but the elections were mostly fair but the card reader had problems as the cards of the former president and his wife were initially rejected by the machine when they went to vote. INEC has been advised by Jonathan to get their machines in order before the 2019 general elections so that they would no longer be cases of cards and card reading machines malfunctioning.
