Out of a total of 8 local government areas, only the results of 5 of them have been released by INEC while elections have not been successfully held or concluded in other areas as a result of violence such as in Southern Ijaw LGA which is reported to have the higher number of registered voters. As a result of the violence experienced by INEC staff in that area, INEC has declared that the elections are cancelled and supplementary elections will be held there later on at a future date.As of today, the PDP candidate and incumbent governor Henry Dickson is in the lead over his opponent and former governor, Timipre Sylva with over 25,00 votes while results for the remaining 3 LGAs would be included later on.There had been claims by the PDP that the ruling APC is trying to use Federal might to rig elections in Southern Ijaw because they were not sure of winning and that's why they engaged thugs and military men to attack INEC staff to steal ballot boxes. but given the way Bayelsans have voted overwhelmingly for the PDP based on results already seen, it would be a bit out of place or suspicious if the results for Southern Ijaw LGA shows a different pattern.Bayelsa is the home state of Nigeria's former President and leader of the former ruling political party, the PDP. It is regarded at one of the strongholds of the party since over 90% of votes voted for the incumbent governor during the previous election. A date for the future election in Bayelsa's Southern Ijaw LGA has not been set yet by INEC but it should be in a few weeks time and when there has been an assurance of adequate security for voters and INEC staff in that area.
