Could you imagine that the maximum sentence which the Nigerian courts have handed over to a Boko Haram member who was responsible for the bombing of a church in Northern Nigeria was simply life sentence? Is this really justice for the over 40 lives of Christians who were simply worshipping their God on their holy day? If life sentence is maximum sentence our supposed courts of justice can hand over to mass murderers in our country, then it seems that human life has come to have little or no value in our system. While many people had expected a death sentence as a justifiable sentence to someone who was involved, along with others in the continuous killing of Nigerians, many were surprised to find out that he would be allowed to live his life in prison.Nigerians are well aware of the level of corruption in Nigeria and how politicians and politics can change from time to time and how even killers had escaped justice from time to time, it is only worrisome that this keeps repeating itself overtime. One would not be surprised that in the near future, when an Islamist friendly president comes to power, he may grant the convict a presidential pardon.According to news reports, the mastermind of the St Theresa's Catholic church 2011 Christmas day bombing in which a lot of people died and were injured, Kabiru Sokoto, only got a life sentence from a Federal High court in Abuja. The funny thing is that the convict never begged for mercy or even showed remorse for the lives he wasted and yet the court seems to be lenient with him.
