If you ask me, I'd say that the best solution for Nigerian government to end the ASUU strike is to simply privatize the university education sector. Most of the Federal universities who are normally affected by the ASUU strike is simply a sign that the government can no longer manage that sector. Actually, the government has no business doing business or managing vibrant institutions like the universities especially with civilian government. The government should rather focus their energy on making and enforcing laws that encourage the growth of the education sector.Perhaps, in the past, when we had a military leadership, it was easier to manage since they was less spending at the top, less lawmakers allowances since there was no national assembly and less money spend on budgets. Besides, a military government runs an autocratic government and so lecturers would not dare going on strike as often as they like. With a civilian government however, there has been a growing number of government spending by public officials and on budgets and this is increasing the level of government expenditure when you also include their spending on public institutions.ASUU strike is mostly as a result of disagreements between the Federal government of Nigeria and the Academic staff of Universities. It is mostly as a result of financial disagreements in which the lecturers are demanding for a satisfactory pay for their service.Private universities find it easier to run their universities since they are able to settle their bills without relying on the Federal government. It is probably true that not all Nigerian youths would be able to afford to pay for private universities but I believe their fees can be reduced if the Federal government also regulates things like school fees.Private universities are growing in Nigeria and the advantage is that they operates like many units of a small government that works to educate the public without having to be slowed down by bureaucracies which are common in the government. It would be easier for the Federal government to regulate many private universities who have many managers than be the sole manager of many public universities.
