Why is the Federal govt even contemplating amnesty for the Islamist Boko haram? I read about this in the news and this is probably just one of those fli-flops in policies by the Jonathan govt. Yaradua in granting amnesty to unemployed Niger delta militants really helped in brining peace to teh region as well as give back some financial aids to the region but I'm not so sure giving money to Boko haram would bring peace to the northenrn region since we already know where they stand. To even contemplate giving money to a group that has announced their intention to kill the president and all destroy all churches in the north is nothing but a miscalculation if you ask me.A lot of Christians and innocent people have been killed since the rising violence brought about by Boko haram and criminals in the north and to now say you are granting them amnesty is to say that murderers are welcome to the Federal republic. The truth is that we are practically at war now and a lot of souls have been lost, a lot of blood spilled and the red line has already been crossed. If the govt is indeed going to give money to Boko haram members so as to practically beg for peace, they should even give greater money to all those churches and innocent people who have been attacked since the crisis began in the north. With the way our govt is going about granting amnesty to every criminal that terrorizes the land, we may soon run out of money to give to them and by that time, we may end up having a nation full of terrorists. It also makes one wonder if the money being spend on amnesty programmes actually reach the hand of the beneficiaries or it's just another way for politicians to share money. The truth is that a nation cannot sustain itself by constantly giving out money to people because more terrorists are likely to target Nigeria even after Boko haram may have gone.I also read in the news that even Boko haram has rejected the amnesty and logically, that is what should have been expected. Their ideology is different from the way the Federal govt is thinking. They said they don't want our money but rather for the north to be Islamized and they have proved they are willing to die for it.Amnesty for Boko haram, with the way I see it, is just a political blunder by politicians. They should rather keep their focus on using the army to keep fighting the war we have already being forced to.
