The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has asked all of their supporters throughout Nigeria and abroad to observe a sit at home order as a form of protest For those familiar with MASSOB's sit at home orders, especially living close to their core sources of influence, it is generally seen as a form of public holiday as most supporters who are mostly Igbo traders tend to obey the order as a way of showing solidarity to the Biafran cause. This is not the first time MASSOB has declared a sit at home order and the last one I recall was a bit effective as it drew support from a lot of people most especially Ndigbo who live in cities across Nigeria. MASSOB is a socio-political pressure group that supports the Biafran ideology and uses peaceful means to garner support for their activities which are mostly to pressure the govt in giving the former Biafran region a better share of the nation's resources.MASSOB has also shown support for presidential candidates and political parties that support the their cause and prior to the execution of their latest sit at home order which they've declared some weeks ago, their leader Ralph Uwazuruike had been arrested and charged for treason. This is probably not the first time I recall him being arrested but I guess it's a way the authorities want to put an end to their sit at home orders which seem to be gaining some public appeal.MASSOB has a large support from mostly Igbo youths and some politicians who form the bulk of their membership and they aim to promote the Biafran ideology which is to build and establish a different country outside of Nigeria. The Federal govt sees MASSOB as a rebel group although the group chargeable with treason due to some of their past activities which includes hoisting of the Biafran flag, spreading the use of Biafran currencyJune 8 is the date for MASSOB's sit at home order and it would only be a matter of time before we know how effective it is. Sit at home orders from socio-political groups like these tend to get support from traders, small businesses and a few public workers who support their cause. In most parts of Biafraland, sit at home orders by MASSOB are highly respected and it normally paralyzes commercial activities.
