Anambra governorship elections are going to hold in 2014, a year in which the current governor's tenure is expected to be For most Anambrarians, the last time Chris Ngige was a governor, there was the disbelief that PDP actually won the elections and since most Ndigbo there have tagged the ruling party as simply a rigging machine instituted by the the then president to rob the people of their votes. So many were not surprised when Peter Obi came from behind a barrage of court cases under APGA to become the state's valid winner. However, while the honeymoon lasted for Chris Ngige and his enstranged godfathers, it was a dramatic experience. Ngige did deliver a bit in terms of road constructions, internal security and so on. Chris Ngige first became governor of Anambra on 29 May 2003 after he was sworn in under the platform of the ruling PDP for the elections he supposedly won but with a couple of aggrieved party members He remained governor amidst a lot of pressure in the state until he lost a court case in favour of the APGA candidate.Anambra has always being a special state, being the home state of many notable Nigerians who have made their mark in history. These include names such as the first president, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nwafor Orizu(first senate president of Nigeria), Pius Okigbo, Sir Louis( first president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and first millionaire), Emeka Ojukwu(military governor of the Eastern Region and Biafran leader), Osita Osadebe, Oliver De Coque, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie and so on.When it comes to politics, people of Anambra don't really like playing dirty and dirty politicians don't always last long as the people's votes must count. So, the first time Chris Ngige became governor of Anambra, it was through the PDP, a party which is not too trusted in delivering genuine politics in Anambra state. He however did live a god name behind despite his dramatic tenure. Now that he has declared his intention to become governor again but under the platform of a fairly new party, the APC, we would only wait to see the results once again.
There is already as much stronger party on ground in Anambra state which has delivered Peter Obi for 2 terms and now that Obi is about to vacate office, does Ngige still stand a chance? Even though Ndi-Anambra are more likely to vote for Ngige based on his good name raher than his party, will he be able to uproot APGA that already is on ground.APC's strongest contender in Anambra state is APGA and it would be a huge step if Anambra people decide overnight to vote for them rather than the grassroot party.
