Based on the results already collated and announced in the media, the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA had already won in 16 out of the 21 Local government councils in the state. It is expected that INEC is simply waiting to formerly declare Obiano as governor elect due to the fact that results for Idemili are still being collated after elections were rescheduled to Sunday.Already, the losing parties and candidates are crying out that the election was rigged in favour of APGA. Parties such as the APC which came second and the PDP are all complaining about the way the election was held and the fact that many voters were prevented from voting systematically and scientifically since a lot of names were missing in the register, voting materials arriving late and the fact that voting for Idemili was rescheduled on a Sunday, a church day. This victory by APGA in Anambra state may very well influence the way the party will perform at the council elections and future elections in Igbo land. Already, APGA has being gaining ground in other Igbo states like Imo where they won the last governorship election although Okorocha later decamped to the APC. The APGA still has a solid grassroot support in Imo and Anambra and hope to spread to other SOuth east states and entire Eastern region as time goes on.APGA's victory may not have come as a surprise to the people and parties involved since the incumbent governor has the support of the people and the church and the party seems to be the only party that identifies with what the people really want. The APC, which is a growing opposition party really would have loved to get a win in Anambra state since that would be the first time the party would be testing its influence at an election after its formation as a result of the merge of the CPC and the ACN. I somehow didn't see APC winning in Anambra in a straight election but we are not yet sure what will happen next given that the ACN and APC elements have been know to win elections by the backdoor, i.e. through the tribunals. Already the APC candidate, Senator Chris Ngige has denounced the eleciton and has already signled his intention to go to the election tribunal to cancel the results that were not favourable to him. Well, I doubt if much will come to that.
