The Edo State Governorship Elections scheduled to hold on the 14th July, 2012 and this is mostly seen as a straight fight between the incumbent Adams Oshiomhole(A former NLC leader) and Airhivbere(retired Army General)Adams Oshiomhole has been the governor for the past years after he won a court case declaring the ACN the true winners of the election which was seen to have been rigged by loyalists to the PDP. Being a governor on the initially less popular platform of the ACN was tough for Adams, a man who came from being a popular activist and charismatic leader of the Nigerian Labour Congress to become a successful politician with grassroot support despite the fact that PDP was already on ground. The state had for long being controlled by the PDP both at state and legislative arms but after ACN's victory, power had been shifting the the relatively new party. How long ACN will last in the state may depend on the outcome of this election as this is for them, a test to hold on to power. However the first tenure for ACN governor is coming to an end and a new administration is about to be elected. The elections will be conducted by INEC and for now, PDP and ACN are still the two strongest contenders for the governor's seat. The state is not clearly decided yet on which party truly runs it as there still exists strong forces from both parties vying for the same seat. It has not been smooth sailing for the governor who is seen to have neglected development in certain areas of the state but also same for the PDP both at the state and national level especially with Jonathan's latest antics and inefficiencies such as fuel subsidy removal, growing insecurity, renaming of Unilag as well as division at state level. The ACN seems more focused although the governor suffered a tragedy after the recent killing of his personal aide for which he offered a N10m ransom to get the killersIt is not really a clear win for either party as ACN may still has grassroot support while PDP seems more determined than ever to regain its foothold in the state. So who wins? Oshiomhole or Airhivbere? ACN or PDP?
