Guess what? Major opposition parties in Nigeria have come together to form a new political party which should at least be a major threat to Nigeria's ruling party - The PDP. This new opposition party is made up of a combination of major parties that have control in at least 10 out of the 36 states in Nigeria and includes regions in the South West and north. The major parties involved in the APC include the CPC, ACN, ANPP and some members of APGA(since the party officials have denied their involvement).CPC has good support in the northern Nigeria together with ANPP, ACN has control of most states in South West while APGA has growing support in the South East.I guess in preparation for the major elections in 2015, these political parties are already working towards making a strong showing in the election or at least create a formidable election with a 2 party state. The last time Nigeria had a 2 party state was in 1990s, when we had the SDP and the NRC of which Abiola won on the SDP platform.Although their present strength based on their composition is not yet equal to the numerical strength and influence of the PDP who still control over 20 states, there is a high likelihood that other parties too and people in the opposition could soon swell the numbers in the ranks of the APC by the time 2015 would have arrived. How far will the APC go as a party? How well will they actually do in the election? I think if they really want to perform well, the type of candidates they would present to voters would determine their fate eventually.Personally, I love the PDP but I don't mind swing voting for the APC is they do present an Igbo candidate as president since all the other tribes have had their own fair share of aso rock.
