We are not yet in the cleat about which APC was first registered by INEC but as it stands now, there are 2 associations that are hoping to get registered by Nigeria's INEC and as at the last time, I reported that the newest party in Nigeria coming from the opposition is the All Progressives’ Congress with the acronym APC. What happend later on was that INEC reported that another APC had already been registered with the full name as African Peoples Congress. What that meant was that the much celebrated opposition party formed by ACN, CPC and ANPP could no longer be registered by INEC since there was an existing party in INEC's records. Since then there had been a lot of drama about whether PDP was involved in the scenario to prevent APC from being registered by INEC, a commission which the flambouyant APC claims is already synchronized with PDP to crush the opposition.Recently however, INEC has come out again to say that the old APC would be deregistered due to some technicalities such as failing to file the names of national leaders as well as their registered office. This means good news for the new APC since that means they would be able to register. However the old APN is already protesting and has decided to go to court to stop INEC from deregistering it since it was duly registered before the new APC.We are not yet sure how this would play out but if the old APC is readily part of PDP's agenda to frustrate the new APC, they may still be able to stop their registration just like aborting a child before it is born. The new APC remains one of the most respected opposition to have been formed against the ruling PDP in recent times and with the recent performances of their combined parties, chances are they might give the PDP a round for their money or simply cause an upset int eh 2015 elections since it has support in the South West where the ACN rules and some core north states where the CPC and ACN rules. If I were in support of the PDP, I'd say they should take their chances and ensure that the old APC remains registered and that would give the new APC no other option than to either do a name change or switch back to their old parties. If I were a member of the new APC, I's suggest that they use the INEC oppression to show Nigerians using the media how PDP continues to stifle the opposition using the INEC. The other option would also to revert back to old parties rather than doing a name change for the party since it would be hard to get a better name with more prestige than the APC for now. A third option would be to simply merge with the old APC and do a name change later on.
