If Dr Bukola Saraki runs for President in the future, will you vote for him? I have to say that some of his actions since he became a Senator shows him to be an ambitious person. We can still remember how he outsmarted other Senators to become the Senate President and how he's been attending occasions and making himself publicly available at important events just to show that he is a man of the people. Previous Senate presidents we've had in the past tended to take a back seat but the Senate president seems to be more interested in coming out publicly to show that he cares for Nigerians. In 2014, the media reported him saying that he's dropping his presidential ambition for the sake of Muhammadu Buhari. He has not officially said he's going to run again in 2019.Many people who know the Saraki family came to know them through Bukola's late father, Dr Olusola Saraki who was a very powerful and popular politician in Kwara state who had a Fulani father and Yoruba mother. Olusola Saraki helped bring the Saraki name to political prominence that it has become the most popular family name in Kwara state as at the end of the 20th century. Dr Olusola Saraki helped bring 2 governors into power in 1999 and 2003 with the second person being his son Dr Bukola Saraki and on 2 different political platforms. It would appear that the Saraki family is more concerned about political power than party power given that they won't always be willing to crucify their ambitions for the ambitions of their political party. The late Dr Olusola Saraki appeared not just content on dominating Kwara politics as kingmaker but he also wanted to be president in the past as he had competed with Yaradua, Olu Falae and Nzeribe on the platform of the SDP but didn't get the ticket. He later had to focus on supporting the political ambitions of his children for the future which he did successfully. The son who most got attracted to his father's political empire was Dr Bukola Saraki and Dr Olusola's foundation easily helped his son to achieve the ambition of becoming governor for 2 consecutive terms and later on a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Bukola did not just become a Senator under a platform of a relatively new political party that took power from a ruling party, he also outsmarted other Senators and his political party by becoming the Senate President and without breaking the law. Many who know how the Saraki's operate would agree that they do have political power and can do things to achieve their political ambitions and may not necessarily be stuck to the rules of their political party or be signed up to a single political party for life.As for whether Dr Saraki would want to be President of Nigeria after Buhari steps down in 2019, we are not yet sure but he's more likely to be interested in running if Buhari will not go for a second term. In Nigerian politicias, people aspire for higher positions and for a person who has been a 2 term governor and now a Senate President which makes him the number 3 citizen of the country, the only other fitting position would be President of Nigeria.Sure, Saraki would not want to run against Buhari if the 73 year old retired General musters enough strength to run again in 2019 but if he steps down or is unable to continue, names like Bukola Saraki, Rochas Okorocha, Fashola, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar would be among the prominent candidates to be presented on the platform of the APC during the primaries. However, given that Northern Nigeria voted most for the APC during the 2015 Presidential election, it's more likely that APC will want power to remain in the north after 2019 and that would give more opportunity for politicians like Dr Bukola Saraki, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Atiku Abubakar.
