Muhammadu Buhari will be about 77 years old in 2019 and we are not sure if he will run again for a second term by the time 2019 comes by but if he does, he may just be another Mugabe in the making given the way African Presidents are now living longer lives. Even if he does run or lets another popular politician take his place on the APC platform, the former ruling party called PDP would need to present a credible candidate by the time elections draw near and that would be by the year 2018. Who will be PDP's candidate by the time the next presidential election comes by given that they are still a strong party and still control all the oil producing states in Nigeria? Some may say Bring Back Goodluck Jonathan who has performed well in the past.Yeah, its a bit sensible to bring back Goodluck given that he did perform well in the elections and almost won Buhari again if only Lagos and Ogun state voted well for him. Others may say bring a new face and infact bring an Igbo man given that Igbos have shown that they are the most loyal majority tribe in the PDP. Sure the Igbos have a strong political influence in elections in Nigeria and that's why they are normally seen as a political threat in areas where they reside outside traditional Igbo land by the natives. In a way, I do agree that the PDP deserves to reward the Igbos the most because if they did not support Jonathan the way they did in 2015, the results would have been a big disgrace to the PDP. The Nigeria Delta also voted massively for Jonathan and the PDP in 2015 but they've had their turn and it's probably time for the Igbos to be given a chance to run a race they'be been clamouring for since 1999. It would only be mart to allow someone from the Nigeria Delta to run again in 2019 if only that person was Jonathan Goodluck else it should be justified to give the ticket to an Igbo candidate. There are also some who are saying that it would be better to zone the ticket to the North such as to a Hausa/Fulani in order to break the bulk votes that would be going to the APC or Buhari because they have a strong following in the north. However, the big problem would be in trying to find someone who will be as popular as Buhari if the retired General decides to run again for office. That decision however may cause people from the South East and South South to feel they've been taken for a ride for far too long and may end up boycotting the election or offering their votes to the APC or APGA.PDP needs to set their house in order before 2016 and start working well on deciding how they are going to survive till the next election and who their candidates would be. If Buhari does decide to run again in 2019, it would not make much sense to also choose a candidate from the north but rather from Southern Nigeria and if a Muslim runs in 2019, it won't make good sense to also choose a Muslim to run on the PDP. It would be wiser if they chose candidates that has a different view and different base of support because it would be almost impossible to win back the north from the APC in a space of just 4 years. It's better they focus on areas where they already have their stronghold and grow from there. They should reward those who have stayed loyal to their party since 1999 if they want them to keep supporting their party.
