I don't wish that President Buhari should die in office and I pray that he doesn't at least until he retires so that it doesn't cause confusion in government but I don't think that even Buhari is afraid of dying in office and I don't think that any right thinking Nigerian should pray for that. I pray that he may live long and retire till old age even after he has left office but everything is ultimately in the hands of God because we are not so sure of the future. Why did I have to write about this in the first place? Well, it's because for a President of Nigeria to be at the age of 73, it's normally past the age when many ordinary Nigerian men get to see as the average life of Nigerian men nowadays is under 60 years. God has been kind to Buhari and we pray that he keeps being kind to him. However, we are not sure what will happen in 2019 and as a Christian myself, one of the things we are taught to always keep close to our hearts is the certainty of death. Every man will die one day and it's only a matter of time. However, from natural law, old people are more likely to die earlier than young people and if you look at the age of Buhari, he is well over 60 years old but still strong however, we would agree that his age would make him conscious of the fact that death is nearer to him that it was many years ago when he was still a young man. He is no longer as young and able as he used to be and it's probably because he was in the army, that's why he may have lived to be this age since the army training makes men become physically fit.The big question I'm asking however is on how Nigerians would react if Buhari, a man who is loved by majority of Nigerians, was not able to live as long as 2019. Will people cry for him? How will politicians react? Will the north feel cheated again as they did after the death of Yar'adua? One thing that is certain to happen if Buhari dies in office is that the vice President will become president and it may appear like Power has shifted to the South again and this time to the Yorubas. It may give room for the PDP to swing back into action given that Buhari is the most popular politician on the platform of the APC and his death would give a big blow to them. It may cause the APC to disintegrate as selfish individual interests and fighting for political power may become the order of the day.Remembering the fact that Yaradua was the last civilian President to die in office and was a Fulani, it may be a bit strange and curious if another Fulani also dies in office. Besides, Buhari doesn't have any life threatening health problems that Nigerians know of like Yaradua did as the only thing they know is that he goes for medical checkup in the UK regularly. The APC and people working with the Buhari government need to ensure that President lives long enough to achieve the change and progress he promised during the election so that Nigerians may keep supporting the party in the long term.We don't pray that the President should die soon even though we know that were are all going to die someday, we just pray that he lives long enough to fulfil his promises. It's not always a good thing for a President to die in office.
